Bridging Generations: Digital Wardiny Empowers Older Aboriginal Australians

In a change from business as usual, the IPS Business Advisory team have been combining their experience in community engagement with their knowledge of digital technology to create a new program in the South West and Peel – Digital Wardiny.

Wardiny is a Noongar word for 'Search'.  Digital Wardiny aims to close the digital divide between older and younger people to increase independence and autonomy for older Aboriginal people. 

Funded by the WA Department of Communities, Digital Wardiny connects older Aboriginal people to digital knowledge and skills in fun, accessible, culturally safe ways.

The program supports safe, independent living in Community by improving the digital literacy of older Aboriginal people, making them less susceptible to scams, digital crimes and elder abuse.  

​The program will teach older Aboriginal people how to better use their own handheld device, such as mobile phones, with a focus on how to access online services, find out what is happening in their community and stay in touch with family and friends.

Melinda Ely, an IPS Business Advisor, remarked,
