IPS Management Consultants continually engage, advocate and promote the significant benefits of Indigenous business procurement across government and corporate Australia. We use our spending power to support Aboriginal businesses, and our platform to talk about the challenges facing Aboriginal businesses.
In 2015 the federal government introduced an ambitious policy to break the cycle of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander disadvantage through economic development. State governments in WA, NSW and Queensland soon followed their lead. IPS fully support these policies, and recognise the challenges on both sides of the coin: Government buyers lacked understanding, had negative stereotypes and couldn’t effectively engage with Indigenous businesses. On the other side, Indigenous businesses struggled trying to navigate the Government procurement maze and get a foot in the door. Together with Supply Nation, IPS undertook a research project on the challenges and opportunities facing Indigenous businesses. The report ‘The IPP, Hearing the Indigenous Business Voice, 2017’ caused a stir in Federal Government ranks and led to a meeting with Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion. The report and meeting played a critical role in laying foundations and building the interface between Government and Indigenous business. Since then, we have developed and delivered IPP workshops to Government buyers on how to work with Indigenous businesses, in addition to continuing to advocate and educate within the ranks of our clients and our platforms to raise awareness of the value of Indigenous business procurement We have since gone on to:
