In this article - we discuss the Part Two, where we start to look outward, at Leading Others.
This second module builds on the foundations of Leading Self, following these key themes:
Building confidence in communicating and presenting
How to give and receive feedback in a way that strengthens relationships
The role of the manager as a coach and guide
How to lead diverse capabilities and situations
Building thriving and inclusive teams that deliver peak performance
There are six styles of leadership:
These are learned behaviours, rather than personality traits, and there is no one right or wrong style. In fact, the best leaders are admired for their authenticity and ability to adapt to change. They don’t always visibly lead from the front, and use multiple leadership styles as and when needed.
“It’s OK to admit what you don’t know. It’s okay to ask for help. And it’s more than okay to listen to the people you lead – in fact, it’s essential.” – Mary Barra, CEO General Motors
It takes courage to be a leader. We learn how to develop courage (yes, it is learned) and how to guide our team to be courageous, to learn through making mistakes and get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
And that is why this module looks at the mental health and wellbeing aspects of leadership and recognising signs of unhealthy stress in ourselves and team members. Because change is hard and it’s OK to acknowledge that.
It’s also essential to growth and leading a dynamic and adaptable team.
