In this article, we look at Leading Self.
The first step in anyone’s leadership journey is to look inward, which is why we start with looking at ourselves.
From emerging managers to boardroom executives, we keep coming back to this basic truth: growth and comfort cannot co-exist.
This module can be the most rewarding - and sometimes challenging – of the four modules.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” – Marianne Williamson (Activist and Author)
Quite often we will start with a Personal Profile, which is simply a series of questions that seek to learn how you think, understanding how others think, and how you can better work with others using this knowledge.
Perhaps we look at individual work styles using DiSC, or thinking preferences using HBDI.
We will talk more about Personal Profiling in a later article.
The Leading Self module contains the following key elements:
Developing self-awareness among leaders, including awareness of natural leadership styles, and emotional intelligence.
The importance of effective communication and collaboration skills.
Understanding the dynamics of problem solving, conflict management and influencing skills.
Developing accountability and driving change.
Taking care of yourself: the importance of energy, health, and wellbeing.
When we embed these elements into a Women’s Leadership program, outcomes include: being able to look at ourselves and our leadership styles and strengths through developing self-acceptance, self-management and self-development.
When we develop our self-awareness, we can actively respond to challenges rather than react to them.
